Fashion Jewelry: Rings

Iosselliani Jewelry began in Rome in 1997 by Roberta Paolucci and Paolo Giacomelli. Their success is due to the special techniques used during production, such as the fusion of stainless steel mesh and silver as well as their hand-carved crystals collection. Giacomelli followed his passion for handcrafted jewelry in Rome, where he learned traditional goldsmithing techniques from a master artist. Paolucci is the jewelry designer.

Ashka Dymel was born in Warsaw, Poland. After studies in liberal arts and foreign languages in Poland and Czechoslavakia, Ashka moved to the United States where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Environmental Design from Parsons School of Design in New York City. Ashka's approach to jewelry making and design is informed by her architectural training and background; she achieves harmony in modular repetition of geometric forms. A Minimalist aesthetic and preference for clean lines are major forces influencing her work, resulting in pure and graceful pieces.

After several years of working in the field of architecture, Ashka Dymel began to design jewelry and small objects. Modernism movements of the 1920s, such the Bauhaus School and Russian avant garde art provide inspiration for her work. In her latest collections, she also incorporates mid-20th-century design aesthetics. Since 1990, she has run her own studio in Brooklyn, New York. She lives with her husband and son in Fort Greene, Brooklyn.

Elizabeth Garvin works primarily with semiprecious gemstones and silver, often adding contrast with oxidation or 22 karat gold vermeil. Elizabeth Garvin graduated with honors from New York University in 1986, earning a bachelor of Arts degree, with further studies at Parsons School of Design and Massachusetts College of Art. In 1981, Holly Hosterman and Paul "Yashi" Lubitz started Holly Yashi in their one-car garage. The company's success ignited when Holly and Paul discovered the beauty that lurked in the seemingly dull gray metal, niobium. Lightweight like titanium, when sheets of niobium are dipped in an electrically-charged bath, it flashes into hues of rich, permanent color. It often receives a secondary coloring treatment which is applied by hand.

Holly's intricate designs demand niobium's consistent coloring potential. Equally important, niobium is environmentally clean from start to finish, and so hypo-allergenic that it is used in surgical implants. Fashion Jewelry: Designer Necklaces

Raised in rural Minnesota, Teresa Goodall is a self-taught jewelry designer. Her jewelry is handmade by a select group of artisans in Minneapolis. Teresa's stoneware beads in organic shapes and colors are individually sculpted from clay. The raw clay beads are dipped in or painted with glaze and then fired in high temperature kilns. Her beads are known for the soft hues she achieves in this process.

Teresa Goodall designs are knotted, wrapped, and made to order. A floral garden, an ocean paradise, a calming sunset, the enchanted north woods: these colors are layered and blended to make the stoneware beads used in her jewelry. Other beads are gathered from around the world. Czech, African, Indian, Indonesian, and Chinese glass and stones are imported for use in her jewelry. Carved bone beads come from India. The dusty hues of the bone beads are achieved by Teresa mixing colors and dying them in her studio.

Adriana Orsini Jewelry is made using a jewelry technique called Pavé, French for pavement, whereby the surface is covered with Swarovski crystals. Each stone is held in place by tiny beads, actually very small prongs, that are molded into the jewelry and bent over or flattened against the stones to hold them in place. This method is highly labor intensive since it involves the setting of a large number of very small stones.
