Filomena Demarco Designer Jewelry

Handcrafted Jewelry: Rings

In 2006 jewelry designer Ashley Vick earned her BFA in metals from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston, and became a studio assistant to designer Ananda Khalsa. In 2009, Vick designed and created her own line of jewelry, called Filomena Demarco. Utilizing the techniques of lost wax casting and various methods of fabrication, creates sculptural jewelry that is inspired by forms and colors found in nature, with minimal, bold, clean lines. Each piece is handcrafted using sterling silver and natural gemstones.

Ashley Vick remembers piling on her mother's jewelry with a more-is-better approach, and how beautiful it made her feel to wear it. As a child she had no concept of how much it cost. Inevitably, she would get caught and be forced to put it back. She thinks about how much jewelry went unworn and how it was locked away for safekeeping. The memory of this has shaped her relationship with jewelry. Vick believes it should be worn, and that the value of how good it feels to wear it is, in fact, more valuable than the object itself.
