Recently, he has begun to integrate stainless steel, because he loves the contrast this creates in his designs. When Rosario Merola creates a piece of jewelry, he likes to think that every time it is worn will be like the first time. Growing up in Sicily, he was constantly struck by the rich colors and forms surrounding him. The triangular shape of the island and the many bright colors of the land and sea inspired his integration of these characteristics into many of his jewelry pieces. He designs shapes that are linear and geometric, but soft enough to wrap around the body like a second skin.
