Handcrafted Designer Jewelry

As an artist, enamelist and jewelry maker, Sheila Beatty brings a lifelong involvement in the visual arts to the challenge of making Cloisonne enamel. The design of each piece is defined by fine ribbons of silver or gold. The compartments are filled with thin layers of enamel in vibrant colors. Each layer is fired in a kiln at a high temperature. When sufficient layers of enamel have been applied and fired, the piece is carefully polished and a handcrafted setting is created for it.

Sheila sometimes uses additional techniques and materials to enhance the Cloisonne enamel pieces. The technique of basse-taille involves imparting texture to the fine silver backing, prior to starting the enameling process. This texture shines through the transparent and opalescent enamels applied over it. Likewise, the application of precious metal foils during enameling creates areas that glow through the enamel, adding mystery and visual interest. Her small-scale jewelry pieces are miniature paintings, which take inspiration from the natural world and from historical influences such as Art Nouveau.

Genevieve Yang is a third generation goldsmith: Jewelry is in her blood. She creates simple, elegant, and tactile pieces. Her jewelry is hand forged and fabricated from initial rendering to final finish. Her current collection marries 24 karat gold and silver in her modern and more durable method of the ancient Korean technique of Keum-boo. She utilizes thicker gold and higher heat for bonding in order to create pieces that can withstand more wear, and therefore uses Keum-boo in a novel way.
